The Museum-House "Alexei Mateevici", from the village of Zaim, was inaugurated on March 26, 1988, in the month when the priest-poet would have completed 100 years since his birth (March 16, old style / March 29, new style).
The initiative to open the museum came from the Romanian language teacher, the current director and founder of the museum, the writer Ion Gaina.
The current museum-house housed the Mateevici family between 1893-1907, and Alexie Mateevici lived permanently in Zaim, during the period 1893-1897. The museum is located in the house built by Father Mihail, the poet's father, which became, after his death, a parish house. A vintage photo shows the Mateevici family in front of the house, in 1902.
In the courtyard of the museum, on August 28, 1990, the poet's monument was installed, a bronze work, made by the Bucharest sculptor Mihai Ecobici, in collaboration with Tudor Serban and Tiberiu Mosteanu.
The museum institution from Zaim annually publishes a rich promotional material: leaflets, postcards, personalized stamps, bookmarks, pennants, etc.
The museum has six rooms: three of them are memorial rooms (Parents' Room, Children's Room, Mateevici Family Library) and three exhibition rooms (Bust Room, "I Sing" Room and "Our Language" Room). The museum pieces represent important works of painting, sculpture, ethnographic objects, original photographs, documents, an old book collection from the mid-19th- 20th centuries.
Through a 1993 decision by the Zaim Local Council, a museum itinerary was created in the locality, called the "Spiritual Ring of Zaim". From the same year, the memorial museum became the Republican Center for the "National Mateevici Days" (29 editions) and the "Treasure" National Contest of Young Creators (28 editions).
