Leova is a city located in the southwestern part of the Republic of Moldova, 100 km from the capital of the republic, the municipality of Chisinau. Museum of History and Ethnography from Leova was founded in 1973, by the Culture District Department, in the premises of the "St. Paraschiva" Church, with a fund of 300 objects. In 1994, the museum headquarters was transferred to the building of the first school in the city, which was opened in 1825, and in 2003 the museum was transferred to the premises of the Public Library.
The museum building dates back to the 19th century, which was a former college of agro- zootechnics, where Maria Biesu, opera and lied soprano singer from the Republic of Moldova, studied.
The museum manages 10 798 objects. A special place is occupied by Petre and Ion Teodorovici's Room, which contains personal family photos, memories of friends, etc. Also of interest is the collection of musical instruments: portable cymbals, mandolins, cobza, etc., which belonged to local fiddlers.
"Casa Mare" reproduces the atmosphere of a peasant house from the 19th century. The masterpieces created by the housekeeper are kept here: carpets named "Dolls", "Irises", "Bouquets of roses", etc.
The museum also has a collection of old church books, written in the old Slavonic language: "Primitive Romanian and Russian language course (in two languages)", by Iannu Doncevu, (Chisinau, 1863); "The life of Constantin Voda Cantemir", by D. Cantemir (1924), documents, minutes.
