The museum was established on May 9, 1981, in the premises of the Cultural House and occupies 3 rooms. The founder of the museum institution was the history professor Iacob Babara, supported in everything by his wife, Elena, a Romanian language teacher.
Over the years, due to increasing of the number of exhibits, as well as the number of visitors, the need to expand the exhibition space arose. Thus, the museum was allocated the edifice of the mansion of the nobleman Ion Hasnas, the founder of the village, a building that had been preserved over the years, a unique construction in the north of the republic, different compared to other noble families of those times. The eclectic style combines several elements from different architectural styles, a rather unusual one being the spire on the roof, as well as the dolphins, represented on the facade of the building.
This historical monument, of great importance, was built in 1848, by order of the Hasnas nobleman, by Italian, French and Swiss craftsmen. It is the first building in the locality made of burnt brick, significant being the fact that this is where the history of the village began, based on the family of the nobleman.
After the period of restoration of the mansion, on September 2, 1990, with the support of the local authorities, the opening of the Museum of History and Ethnography was inaugurated.
The building that houses the museum has largely preserved the original appearance of the mansion, the interior is special with the terracotta stoves, glazed with ornamental decoration, and the ceilings, with special elements. In the 9 rooms, valuable objects are exhibited, which characterize the history and culture of the village, each with a different theme, such as: the Room of Heroes; the Room of Intellectual and Spiritual Teachers; the Archaeological Room; the Room of Tools and Peasants' Life; the Ballroom, which serves as a guest room, for activities; as well as the Weaving Room, which contains valuable objects, previously used to give birth to many works of art.
A priority of the museum is to demonstrate to visitors, through museum exhibitions, the economic, social and cultural development of the locality in different historical periods.
